On November 12, 2024, the Human and Natural Resources Development Foundation hosted a significant SOGIE (Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity, and Expression) awareness program at the Aradhana Hotel in Galle. This event brought together 45 representatives from the 15 Divisional Secretariat Divisions of Galle, Matara, and Hambantota districts.
The program, facilitated by Mrs. Thushari Chandrasekara, aimed to foster understanding and acceptance of diverse sexual orientations and gender identities. Key topics covered included:
- Health and Mental Well-being: The importance of holistic health, including mental health, was emphasized.
- Sexuality and Gender: A comprehensive overview of sexuality, gender identity, and gender expression was provided.
- SOGIE and Social Factors: The impact of societal attitudes, cultural norms, and personal experiences on SOGIE individuals was discussed.
Through interactive group activities and insightful lectures, participants gained valuable knowledge and skills to promote inclusivity and respect within their communities.
The program concluded with positive feedback from attendees, who expressed gratitude for the opportunity to learn about SOGIE issues and their commitment to creating a more inclusive society.
